Siding is sold by the "square" (100 sq ft), and getting the quantity right saves you from an expensive re-order or a pile of leftover material. This calculator estimates squares of vinyl siding after subtracting windows and doors.

Scenario: Your home has a 160 ft perimeter, 9 ft walls, 12 windows, and 3 doors. You're using 10% waste.
Result: Gross wall area: 1,440 sq ft. Subtract 12 windows (180 sq ft) and 3 doors (63 sq ft) = 1,197 sq ft net. With 10% waste: 1,317 sq ft, or about 14 squares.
Multiply your home's perimeter by wall height for gross area. Subtract windows (about 15 sq ft each) and doors (about 21 sq ft each). Add 10% for waste. Divide by 100 to get squares.
A 'square' is 100 square feet of coverage. Each box covers 1 or 2 squares depending on the brand. Check the box label for exact coverage per carton.
Basic vinyl siding runs $80-$150 per square for material only. Insulated vinyl siding costs $150-$300 per square. Professional installation adds $200-$400 per square. A full house re-siding runs $5,000-$15,000 all-in.
Yes. Measure gable triangles as width x height / 2 and add that area to your wall total. Gable ends often require more cuts, so the 10% waste factor helps cover the extra waste from angled cuts.
