At $50-200 per square foot for quartz or granite, over-ordering countertop material is an expensive mistake. This calculator sizes your order based on counter layout, with waste factored in for sink cutouts and edge pieces.

Scenario: Your bathroom has 8 linear feet of vanity counter at 22 inches deep with 10% waste for the sink cutout.
Result: Base area is 8 x 22/12 = 14.67 sq ft. With 10% waste, order 16.13 sq ft of countertop material.
Measure the total length of your counter runs in feet and multiply by the depth in feet (25.5 inches = 2.125 ft for standard counters). Add 10% for cutouts and waste. Don't forget to measure island counters separately.
Standard kitchen countertop depth is 25 to 25.5 inches, including overhang. Bathroom vanity countertops run 22 inches deep. Island counters can be deeper if you want overhang for seating.
Standard overhang past cabinets is 1 to 1.5 inches. Bar-height or eating areas need 12-15 inches of overhang and may require support brackets at spans over 10 inches.
Add 10% for standard layouts. Add 15% if you have curved edges, lots of cutouts (multiple sinks, cooktop), or unusually shaped counter runs. Waste is higher for natural stone because slabs can have flaws.
