Bathroom remodels range from a few thousand dollars for a cosmetic refresh to sixty thousand or more for a full gut renovation. This estimator gives you a rough cost range based on bathroom size and finish level to help set realistic expectations.
Bathroom Size
Finish Level
Small / Budget
Scenario: You're refreshing a small hall bathroom (under 40 sq ft) with budget-friendly finishes like basic ceramic tile and a stock vanity.
Result: Estimated cost range: $5,000 - $8,000. Covers new tile, a basic vanity, updated fixtures, and paint.
Medium / Mid-Range
Scenario: You're remodeling a 60 sq ft guest bathroom with mid-range finishes like porcelain tile, a solid-surface vanity top, and updated lighting.
Result: Estimated cost range: $12,000 - $25,000. Includes quality tile, a mid-range vanity, new fixtures, and professional labor.
Large / Upscale
Scenario: You're doing a full renovation of a 90 sq ft master bathroom with upscale finishes like natural stone, a freestanding tub, and frameless glass shower.
Result: Estimated cost range: $35,000 - $60,000. Covers premium materials, custom tile work, high-end fixtures, and skilled labor.
Small bathroom: $5,000-$25,000. Medium: $8,000-$40,000. Large/master: $12,000-$60,000+. The range depends on finish level (budget vs. upscale) and scope (cosmetic refresh vs. full gut). Labor runs 40-60% of total cost.
New tile floor, tub/shower surround, vanity with solid-surface top, updated fixtures (faucet, showerhead, toilet), new lighting, fresh paint, and possibly a new exhaust fan. Does not include moving plumbing or expanding the footprint.
Moving plumbing is the single biggest cost driver -- relocating a toilet or shower drain can add $2,000-$5,000. Custom tile work, heated floors, frameless glass shower enclosures, and natural stone countertops also push costs up significantly.
A cosmetic refresh (paint, fixtures, accessories) takes a few days. A standard remodel (new tile, vanity, toilet) takes 2-3 weeks. A full gut renovation takes 4-8 weeks. Add extra time if permits and inspections are required.
